A poem for Dad...
It was you at the start, it was you at the end,
Our beloved, our Dad, our Grandad, our friend
The love of our life, our pedestal, our light
Our greatest champion, our makes-it-alright
It was you for Mum – the only one
Fresh faced together, happy and young
A lifetime of love, even if cut short
A love that endured, inspired and taught
It was you as a friend that shaped us each day
Paved our own friendships, showed us the way
The very Best Man, the truest friend
Surrounding you in love, right til the end
It was you as a Father, your greatest pride
A childhood of happiness, with you at our side
Days on the beach, nights under the stars
Never safer than when in your arms
It was you as a sportsman, every day
Marathons and Mountains, blazing our way
Fundraising, competing, or sports days at school
Teaching us ways to stand proud and tall

It was you who made all feel the warmth of the sun
Loved so completely by everyone
Young and old, near and far
A magnetic pull, to be where you are
It was you as Grandad that took our breath away
A love unexplained, no words can say
Two children who believed in the wonder of you
Somehow, like us, they just knew it too
It was you at the start, it was you at the end,
Our beloved, our Dad, our Grandad, our friend
The love of our life, our pedestal, our light
Our greatest champion, our makes-it-alright
